Processor speeds are measured in Mega- (one million), or Giga- (one thousand million), Hertz, often shortened to “MHz” and “GHz”, and these figures can be useful for comparing like with like. It would be fair to say that for most everyday computing tasks, such as word processing, Internet browsing or email, even a fairly low specification, modern laptop will cope admirably well. More intensive applications, including computer video games, may benefit from more processing power, but a 1GHz processor is likely to be adequate even for these.
